Yes, you read right. Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) requirements differ based on which Thai Embassy or Consulate-General you apply from. While most of the reports we’ve received prove a relatively easy process to obtain a DTV, reports are still coming in that some Thai consular offices are stipulating additional requirements.

What are some of the additional DTV requirements?

Additional requirements may include proof of residence in Thailand for the 180 days of intended stay, additional legalization of documents submitted, proof of permanent presence in the country they are applying from (i.e. a rental agreement, a bill, a bank statement), and higher cost. Please make sure to check the website of your local Thai consular office and/or call them to confirm requirements and pricing.

I read that the DTV is only THB10,000, why is it more expensive where I am applying from?

Each Thai consular office will set the rate based on their local currency, i.e. AUD, CAD, EUR, USD. While exchange rate and conversion may offer one reason for the difference, each consular office is also free to set their prices. For example, the DTV costs AUD600 in Australia (over THB13,800), CAD650 in Canada (over THB16,700), EUR350 in France (over THB13,500), and USD400 in the United States (over THB14,100), and so on. Check with your local Thai consular office prior to your visit to avoid a surprise.

Where can I find a Thai Embassy or Consulate-General near me?

We recommend looking on the Royal Thai Embassy website here.

Can I apply for the DTV online? What are the requirements?

Yes, you can apply for a DTV on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Thai E-Visa website here. The basic requirements for the DTV can be found here. Remember to check your eligibility on the home page by entering the country of your passport and the country where you are applying from.
