Are you a French citizen planning to get married in Thailand? Good news! You can tie the knot while on a tourist visa, or any other valid visa. Make sure to plan a few months ahead of time as the required “certificat de célibat” (or certificate of single status) can take 2-3 months to obtain from the French Embassy in Thailand. Step 3: Apply for “certificat de celibat” at the French Embassy in Thailand
Step 4: Pick up documents at the French Embassy in Thailand on your behalf
Step 5: All documents certified at Ministry of Foreign Affairs on your behalf

If you have plans to use the marriage certificate as a legal document in your country, it is best to have it translated into your own language and notarized at the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs and French Embassy.
French nationals who are married to Thai nationals do not automatically acquire Thai citizenship nor automatically qualify for Thai residency. Foreigners married to Thais still need to apply for a visa at Immigration and renew the visa every year. For more information, see the Marriage Visa section of our website here.
